B. Michael Clendenin, Founder, Managing Director, RedTech Advisors
Michael has more than 20 years of experience as a journalist and analyst – with more than 10 of those years spent in Greater China covering technology. Before founding RedTech, he worked as a Shanghai-based technology analyst for CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets and as the Taiwan/China bureau chief for the Electronic Engineering Times. Michael is widely regarded as a key source for analysis of the Greater China technology scene, and has donated his time as a speaker and advisor to industry groups and think-tanks, such as the Global Semiconductor Alliance, the National Bureau of Asian Research and the East-West Center. He has also written about Asia for BusinessWeek, Time and the South China Morning Post and has appeared on CNBC Asia's Squawk Box. Originally a reporter and editor for Silicon Valley's flagship newspaper, the San Jose Mercury News, Michael moved to Taiwan in the late 90's to cover the semiconductor and hardware design industry. Michael is fluent in both spoken and written Chinese.
Thomas Hutchison, Director, Diverso Management
Tom has over 10 years experience in the Greater China equity markets. As an analyst based first in Taiwan and then China, Tom has covered the industrial commodity, mining and natural resource sectors. He brings extensive financial, analytical and research skills to support RedTECH’s effort to unlock value in China. Tom is currently director of the Research and Market Intelligence Team at Diverso Management, a private equity firm in China. Prior to joining Diverso, he was Deputy Head of Research at Evolution Securities China where his team focused on property, industrial cyclicals, mining, transportation as well as alternative energy. He has an bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto, and an MBA degree from Schulich School of Business in Canada. He is fluent in Mandarin.
Dr. Jeremy Wang, Asia-Pacific Executive Director, Global Semiconductor Alliance
Jeremy oversees all aspects of managing GSA's presence in the region. He is responsible for working with key executives in Asia to encourage their membership and participation with GSA, promoting a unified and global voice for the semiconductor industry. He also manages the Asia-Pacific Leadership Council, the group responsible for determining the direction and organization of GSA's Asian presence. Jeremy earned his Ph.D. in Materials Science from University of Wisconsin-Madison and a bachelor of science in Physics from National Tsing-Hua University in Taiwan. He has published more than 10 research papers and holds two patents in semiconductor process technologies.
John A. Clendenin, CEO and Founder, ICLogistics; former senior faculty, Harvard Business School
John brings extensive experience in integrated supply chain and international trade facilitation from the perspective of both a Fortune 500 executive and as a former member of the senior faculty at Harvard Business School. As a Xerox executive, he was responsible for designing processes that reduced corporate inventories by $700M during a period of hyper-growth. As a renowned expert in logistics, John was appointed with other industry leaders by the National Research Council to the Committee on Supply Chain Integration which produced a seminal book on supply chain integration for small and medium-sized businesses. John is a retired US Marine Telecommunications Officer who earned an MBA from the Harvard Business School. He currently serves on the Boards of EquipNetDirect.com and City Fresh Foods.
Norman Yen, Consultant, former CEO and Board Director for FTSE/Xinhua Index
Norman has spent more than 16 years working in the US and Asia on business transformation, market expansion & business re-engineering initiatives. He has held three executive level and one Board position for global firms either entering into or expanding from China and has hands-on experience in all aspects of complex B2B sales, business development, China government-relations program setup, and team-based contract negotiation strategies. During the last seven years, Norman has specialized in Greater China related opportunities. Prior to his work at FTSE/Xinhua, Norman held MD/GM positions for SunGard Asia Pacific and Fidelity Information Services. He has also been a Principal at PricewaterhouseCoopers, working in the Management Consulting Strategic Change Practice in East Asia. Norman lives in Shanghai and currently provides investment research, advisory and consulting services to institutional investment firms and senior executives in multinational companies expanding into or from China.
Peter Sutton, Consultant, former Taiwan strategist and Head of Research, CLSA Asia Pacific Markets
Peter has more than 25 years experience in the securities industry as an analyst. Starting in New Zealand in 1983 he moved to Asia in 1993, spending four years in Jakarta , three years in Hong Kong, two years in Singapore and the last seven years in Taipei . In his 16 years in Asia , Peter has led research teams which have received numerous number one rankings from Institutional Investor Magazine, Asia Money and Greenwich Consultants. He joined CLSA Asia Pacific Markets in 1997 and remains a consultant with them whilst on sabbatical studying Chinese at National Taiwan University.
Samuel Ni, Senior Market Analyst, CleanTech specialist, MEMC Electronic Materials
Samuel has been working in China’s semiconductor industry for more than 20 years. Prior to MEMC, he worked as a senior analyst and project manager for Semiconductor Equipment Manufacturing International (SEMI) and as a journalist for the Electronic Engineering Times. He has also held engineering and management positions at both state-owned enterprises and top-tier multinational corporations. His current focus is the renewable and clean energy field, including photovoltaic electricity power generation, LED lighting, and smart grids. Samuel is a native of Shanghai.
Charles Wang, Senior Director, Marketing and Sales, Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. (SMIC)
Charles has 25 years of experience in IT, telecommunications, and semiconductors. He helped define SMIC’s new “go to market” strategy, IP roadmap, and 2010 break-even plan. He was also a key architect of the foundry’s 3G Mobile program, positioning the firm to benefit from China’s economic stimulus package. Charles also led the effort to form strategic relationships with several IP vendors to position SMIC in the markets for 3G netbooks, MIDs (Mobile Internet Device), and smartphones. Prior to SMIC, Charles worked at NXP Semiconductors, where he was responsible for establishing NXP’s China strategy. Charles has also served as CEO of Cadence Institute of Software Technology and as 3G Technical Director at Lucent Technology, among other senior positions. Charles holds a MSEE degree from the University of Washington and lives in Shanghai.
Scott Kennedy, Associate Professor in the Departments of Political Science and East Asian Languages & Cultures; Director of the Research Center for Chinese Politics & Business (RCCPB) at Indiana University.
Scott’s brings a wealth of China knowledge to the table, particularly in commerce. His research interests include government-business relations, policymaking, and global governance. He is author of The Business of Lobbying in China (Harvard University Press, 2005) and articles in China Quarterly, China Journal, Political Science Quarterly, World Policy Journal, and elsewhere. Scott’s current research projects focus on the growing role of the Chinese government and industry in global economic governance and the evolution of corporate political activity in China. From August 2008-August 2009, he was a Fulbright research scholar at Peking University’s School of International Studies. Scott earned his Ph.D. from George Washington University in 2002. He is fluent in Mandarin.
